Resident Evil 2 is
a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. Set in the fictional
city of Raccoon City, the game follows the story of two protagonists, rookie
police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, as they try
to escape the city after it has been overrun by zombies and other mutated
creatures.
The game begins
with Leon arriving in Raccoon City on his first day as a police officer.
However, he quickly finds himself in the middle of a zombie outbreak, and is
forced to fight his way through hordes of the undead in order to reach the
police station, which has been designated as a safe haven.
Meanwhile, Claire
arrives in Raccoon City in search of her missing brother, Chris, who is a
member of the special forces unit known as S.T.A.R.S. She too finds herself
caught up in the chaos, and eventually meets up with a young girl named Sherry
Birkin, who is the daughter of two of the city's top scientists.
As Leon and Claire
explore the police station and the surrounding areas, they discover that the
outbreak is the result of an experiment gone wrong at a nearby research
facility known as the Umbrella Corporation. The company had been developing a
new type of bioweapon called the G-virus, which had the ability to mutate human
beings into powerful, nearly invincible monsters.
In the end, Leon
and Claire must face off against Birkin and other mutated monsters in order to
obtain a sample of the G-virus, which they hope will be the key to stopping the
outbreak once and for all. Along the way, they also discover the shocking truth
about the fate of Chris Redfield and the other members of S.T.A.R.S.
The game features
multiple endings depending on the choices made by the player throughout the
game, and is known for its intense atmosphere, challenging gameplay, and
memorable characters. It is considered a classic of the survival horror genre,
and has inspired numerous sequels, spin-offs, and adaptations in other media.
As the game
progresses, the two protagonists must not only fight off zombies and other
mutants, but also deal with the treacherous and often deadly machinations of
various Umbrella employees and other survivors who are also trying to escape
the city.
